Sound film

do et is an experimental audio-visual artwork, created in 2011. The soundtrack was performed by a mixture of autonomous and interactive custom software. Even though all compositional elements are controlled by random numbers, the result has a strong tendency towards harmonic scaling and verse repetition.

Making the visuals first consisted of translating the recorded sound into a visual domain. The sound data was analyzed, manipulated and converted to a list of instructions. Next, the instructions were read by a custom software as a script for choreographing two abstract “dancers” in 3D space. Each dancer has unique characteristics which correspond to the soundscape. Both in sound and visuals, the two are in a constant feedback loop, each effecting the other. This work aims to articulate a thought process by which ideas form and accumulate as physical matter in 3D space.
