Software experiment

COLONY type-C is a software experiment which studies emergence in non linear systems. It is a variant of the sandPile Cellular Automata algorithm, created by deliberately ignoring its implied law of energy conservation in order to simulate chemical instability. This type of behaviour resulted in numerous emergent phenomena such as fractals, hierarchical formations, pathfinding agents and various other instances of self organization. Slight changes to the rule set produce in massive shifts in system behaviour, with unique characteristics to each change. The latest version is implemented in GLSL, allowing very large scale systems to run on consumer grade machines at interactive speeds due to hardware acceleration.


This project was a part of the SEMICOLONY experiments and will be futher developed in 2016. stay tuned…
